Dolphin and seal strike up unlikely friendship

The cheeky duo, friends since the age of two months, love nothing more than chasing each other about in a game of tag.

The friends live at the Pet Porpoise Pool marine park in Coffs Harbour, Australia, and also enjoy a good gossip, with Miri barking and Jet clicking in replay.

‘They struck up a friendship really early on as they are the youngest,’ said pool specialist at the park Amy Carter.

‘If Jet sees Miri going past he sticks his head out of the pool to say hi and they make noises to each other.’

Ms Carter explained the park allows their seals and dolphins free time together to help build relationships.

But said they would not be friends in the wild as they would be competing for fish.

‘They wouldn’t have anything to do with each other - and if they did it might not be a positive relationship.’

Pet Porpoise Pool opened in 1970 as a rescue and rehabilitation centre for marine animals.
